History of Srilanka

Sri Lankan history provides an overview of the significant figures and occasions throughout the country's past and current. Located in the Indian Ocean and divided from peninsular India by the Palk Strait, the country was originally known as Ceylon. Close cultural exchange between India and Sri Lanka has always been made possible by their proximity to the Indian subcontinent. Since Sri Lanka is situated at the intersection of several sea lanes that span the Indian Ocean, it has also been impacted culturally by other Asian societies. An extension of peninsular India, Sri Lanka split off from the mainland possibly as recently as the Miocene Epoch, which occurred between 25 and 5 million years ago. Since the late 20th century, archeological digs have revealed that humans were living on the island between 75,000 and 125,000 years ago. Like other Paleolithic peoples, the first inhabitants of the area were hunters and gatherers who fashioned and used very crude stone tools. About 28,000 years ago, finer tools made of quartz and occasionally chert start to show up in the archeological record.Over two millennia have passed since human settlement began in Sri Lanka, and the Indian subcontinent has had a significant influence on the country's civilization. India is the source of the island's two main ethnic groups, the Sinhalese and the Tamils, as well as its two main religions, Buddhism and Hinduism. Indian influence can be found in a wide range of fields, including astronomy, literature, music, art, and architecture.

Sunrise

Flowing mountains, lush vegetation, countless gorgeous vistas, comfortable temperatures, and the ideal sunrise to top it all off! One of the most breathtaking locations in Sri Lanka to see a gorgeous sunrise is the Ella Gap. Melt your heart seeing the sun rise between Ella's mountains.

Ravana Waterfalls

This waterfall, which is about 25 meters (82 feet) tall, is formed by the collapse of an oval-shaped, concave granite outcrop. The waterfall is believed to resemble an areca flower with withering petals during the local wet season. However, during the dry season, when there is a significant decrease in water flow, this is not the case. The local Ella railway station is 6 kilometers (3.7 mi) from the falls, which are a part of the Ravana Ella Wildlife Sanctuary.
